Craigslist Creep of the Week

RAZOR RESIDENCEWhen I clicked on this ad for a 38-year-old ‘Young Successful Sugar Daddy’ in San Clemente seeking a ‘younger female for discreet friendship and some XXX fun’, I immediately thought that the picture of his home looked familiar. It turned out that I had seen the house before – in the movie Iron Man!

After a few clicks through the trusty Google Images search, I saw that his house is actually the Razor residence, the palatial 11,000 square foot home in La Jolla that was reportedly the inspiration for Tony Stark’s pad in Iron Man. So far construction costs have come to over $34 million.

Here is more info and pictures of the home via Miss Swiss.

The home Architectural Digest named Wallace E Cunningham is one of the top 100 designers; one look at the Razor residence and you’ll see why. Razor sits on a hilltop that just so happens to be above Torrey Pines State Reserve, a coastal state park.

Catfish-proofing your profile

Another day; another excuse to break out the popcorn and watch yet another Dr Phil show about a mother who tried online dating and is clearly being scammed by a catfish. I’ve written before that these cases only represent the tip of the iceberg – and while, as family members, our instinct may be to grab the person, shake them and scream ‘You can’t handle the truth!’ like Jack Nicholson in A Few Good Men, I’m going to focus on how we can help them – and ourselves – catfish-proof online dating profiles. I think that online dating can be great. . . as long as you use caution and limit the pool of eligible singles to people who actually exist.  Read more

Mail-order bride boom

Could a mail-order bride website become the new Match.com? Fortune magazine reports that websites like AnastasiaDate are trying to shed the shady images of green card goldiggers and abusive American men in search of Stepford slaves. They have re-branded the mail-order bride business ‘premium international dating’.According to U.S. immigration statistics there were roughly 200 international marriage broker agencies in 1999 that coordinated between 4,000 and 6,000 marriages. By 2010, there were twice as many agencies – and 10,000 and 15,000 couples tying the knot. [. . .]
