For my new gig as Crime Writer for Investigation Discovery/Crimefeed, I took a drive out to Long Island…the hunting ground of the Long Island Serial Killer.
Six years ago on January 25, 2011, police in Long Island confirmed that they were hunting a serial killer. The bodies of Maureen Brainard-Barnes, 25, Melissa Barthelemy, 24, Amber Lynn Costello, 27, and Megan Waterman, who all worked as escorts and advertised on Craigslist, were found in 2010 along an isolated area near Gilgo Beach. Over ten bodies have been found so far, including the skeletal remains of Shannan Gilbert, who was last seen fleeing the home of a client she met on Craigslist in May 2010. I took a drive to Gilgo Beach, and found a long, desolate stretch of highway that makes me feel like I'm in a David Lynch movie. All roads seem to lead to nowhere. The identity of the "Long Island Serial Killer" remains a mystery. @lovedetective #lisk #idaddict #idcrimefeed #serialkiller #coldcase
